Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference opportunity for you

March 12, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

EGLFC 2017 Update:

Many Hands Make Light Work

Already many people had volunteered to help make EGLFC 2017 a success, several of them with experience from working on previous conferences. They are used to working across distances, as EGLFC committees have done in recent years. They have an ample treasury to cover reservations and other expenses for the October 6-9, 2017 event.

Two key positions remain unfilled, Chair and Treasurer. Without people in these jobs the Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference will not happen. Other areas, including publicity, could use additional volunteers.

October 2017 may seem far off but great teachers book far in advance. The committee must begin work soon. Please consider the opportunities this conference offers for you to shine — as well as those it offers for area fiber artists to study locally with nationally-known teachers — and step up to help make EGLFC 2017 a reality.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Central Ohio Weavers Guild is offering two workshops. Check them out.

February 8, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

This announcement just in from CentralOhioWeaversGuild@yahoogroups.com
We have two workshops left for the 2015-16 year (through May) and signups are low this year.  Have you been considering it, but just haven’t gotten around to signing up?  If so, now is the time!

Robin Russo will be conducting a two day spinning workshop April 23-24.  Cost is $150 plus $25 materials fee.  We have to give Robin the number of attendees on February 20, so she has adequate time to order fiber for the event.  Right now, signups are very low.  We will look at them again on February 15.  If it doesn’t look like we can meet our minimum, we will be required to cancel the workshop.  So… if you are thinking about signing up, take the plunge!  If you have already signed up, talk your friends (inside or outside of the guild) into taking the workshop with you.  Here is the link:  Robin Russo:  World of Goat Fibers.  The signup for this class is no longer password protected as it is open the non-guild members.

Susan Conover will be conducting a one day drafting workshop on March 20.  The cost is $65, which includes handouts.  Consider taking this workshop if you want to strengthen your drafting skills or brush up on the skills you already have.   Right now, signups are also low for this workshop, so support the education component of our guild, by taking this workshop!  Here is the Link:  Susan Conover:  Drafting with Pencil & Paper.  The signup for this class is no longer password protected as it is open the non-guild members.

Thanks everyone!  Hope to see you in one (or both) of these workshops!

From the EGLFC planning committee

February 8, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Planning for 2017

Visit:  EGLFC

Formerly hosted by a single guild, since 2009 Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference has been organized by a team of individuals. Relying largely on email and phone to coordinate, each person on the team brings unique skills to tasks like program and event planning, promotion and registration. EGLFC provides ample seed money for the next conference, plus business relationships and records from past events to assist future organizers.

To secure the venue and get great teachers, advance planning for EGLFC 2017 must begin soon. It starts with one or two people who will form their own team from friends and other volunteers. The 2015 team can help by providing referrals, also by meeting with the incoming team to transfer records and answer any questions.

Sound enticing? Talk to your friends about what skills you would like to share, or to build, and how organizing the next EGLFC might fit for you. Feel free to contact me at 716-648-2987 or peghouse54@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

An Invitation to our area weaving guilds for February 18

January 7, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

On February 18, 2016, the Cuyahoga Weavers Guild is honored to host a
program about Sara Matesson Anliot, a renown weaver in Cleveland
beginning in the 1950s. Ms Anliot was a professor at Cleveland
Institute of Art, May Show exhibitor at the Cleveland Museum of Art,
and member of the Cuyahoga Weavers Guild. The program by family
friend, Margaret Luckay and Sara’s step daughter, Mary Anliot
Hertzman,  from Kentucky will share some of the family’s private
weavings and stories about Sara.  The post war years were flourishing
for the art of weaving and the Swedish inspired techniques became a
standard throughout the United States.  We will hear and become
inspired ourselves by this history in our midst.
The program is free and open to the public and will begin at 12:30 at
the Church of the Savior
2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118.
