Meeting and Ohio Knitting Mills program is Thursday

November 19, 2013 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Please join the Cuyahoga Weavers Guild for a visit to the Ohio Knitting Mills in Cleveland for our November program.

We will congregate at the Church of the Saviour parking lot, 2537 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights, OH, at 10:45 am, departing at 11:00 am promptly. We will carpool to a lunch stop, #1 Pho, 3120 Superior Ave., Cleveland. It should take no longer than 30 minutes to reach the restaurant. This is a Vietnamese Restaurant, serving very authentic Vietnamese food. There is easy parking on 31st Street. Turn south on 31st Street from Superior. Parking is on the right in a lot marked PHO parking.

We will have over an hour to enjoy lunch before driving to The Ohio Knitting Mills, 4701 Perkins Ave, Cleveland. It is less than a mile away with adequate parking at the mill location. The parking lots have uneven surfaces, so please wear sturdy shoes. There will be space near the door to the mill for parking for unsteady walkers.  This is a district of old warehouses, and the entrance to the parking lot and mill is absolutely next to the railroad overpass on the north side of the street, east side of the railroad.

We are expected at the mill at 1:00 pm and will have a program presented by Steven Tatar, President-Do-All of the mill. He has promised to share history, current styles and the availability of purchasing the mill’s recently published book of knitting patterns.

Plan at least an hour for the program.

We will have maps and instructions at the church. If you are driving directly, plan to be at #1 Pho about 11:30 am and the Mill at 1:00 pm.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

One spot left in Su Butler workshop, April 9th – 11th, 2014

October 22, 2013 By Darcy Leave a Comment

Our 3-day spring workshop this year is Easy Pickup with Su Butler. Simple techniques will be learned to create complex looking designs on 3 or 4 shafts. Appropriate for all levels of weavers for embellishments and additional depth. We will need pre-warped looms, use a cartoon, and create a sampler of designs. Our MAFA attendees suggested Su as a workshop leader as she was outstanding at MAFA.
From Patty Hridel:
We presently have one opening left for the Sue Butler Easy Pickup workshop on April 9, 10, & 11, 2014. We will take a waiting list. If someone is interested who has not signed up, please contact Patty. The cost will be under $200 each, and we will take deposits after the first of the year. The web site for Su is www.subudesigns.com.

Meeting on Thursday, October 17th

October 14, 2013 By Nancy Leave a Comment

We look forward to seeing you Thursday, October 17th, at 12:30 pm at the Church of the Savior, 2537 Lee Rd,, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118, (216) 321-8880, for the October meeting. Come at 11:30 am to enjoy a brown bag lunch for conversation.

For our program:

Peter Collingwood comes to Cuyahoga Weavers– can you see the headlines? But wait, you say, I thought he was no longer on this earth? Well, it is with wonderful gratitude to our own Fred Lamb, also passed away, that we have Peter Collingwood’s video, and we will have the pleasure of sharing it for our program in October. We will also get the stories of Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference, which some of our members will have just attended.

Now is a good time to pay your Guild dues for the 2013 – 2014 year. Please bring your check to the meeting if you haven’t paid them yet.

See you there!
