Weaving and other fiber-based fun for 45 years and counting

CWG Program News and COVID-19

April 7, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Patty and Sheri share:
This April our weavers guild had many exciting events and opportunities planned and on the calendar. Many of them we have been looking forward to for more than a year. And, BOOM! now we have nothing! Well, we can make the adjustment, it will be different, but we will still be weaving and we will still want to see each other and share information as well as beautiful hand woven projects as we have been doing for 50+ years.
As of today, April 6, 2020, we have notified our guild members that the Study Group meeting for April 2nd. and the April 3rd. hanging of the show at the Beachwood library will not take place.
Further cancellations are:
The entire show at the Beachwood library has been cancelled considering the library being closed until further notice.
We are cancelling our workshop with Sara Bixler April 23 & 24. Sara was considering her possibilities of video workshop or mailing us the workbook materials for the workshop. We have not talked to her for a final determination but when we do we will make the proper refunds to each weaver who had signed up for the workshop.
We will not, obviously, have to take down the show on April 24 & 25.
As for May, I wish I could use my Seer skills and be able to predict what the virus situation will be in May. At this time, I am assuming the normal study group meeting will take place on May 7 and the regularly scheduled Guild  meeting will continue on May 21. We hope so! Meantime, I suggest we consider an email vote for officers for the next Weaving Year, 2020-2021. We will hopefully be able to have the show in Chagrin Falls in conjunction with the Valley Art Center’s Art by the Falls Festival. That is still on the Art Center’s “Cautiously Optimistic” calendar.  June 1 will be our set up.
Won’t we be delighted as we meet next, the days will be warm, our greetings reflecting how pleased we are to see each other, our weaving efforts will look brilliant! Meantime, Weave ON!

Update from Elfriede

March 28, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Dear Weavers,
because we have to stay home (and weave) for a while, some of our planned events are

cancelled:
There will be no study group meeting at Jessie’s house on April the 2nd.
The set up for our show at the Beachwood library on April 3rd is cancelled. The show will not

take place because the library is closed all of April. We do not know at this time when it will be open again.

We are still hoping to do the show in Chagrin Falls in June. We will keep you informed as to events there.

At this time there is no definite news about our meeting and workshop in April. It does not look too good, but Patty will be in touch when she has more information.

I hope you are all in good spirits and healthy. Keep sending pictures and news. Elfriede

Our CWG reminders and sign-up requests

January 6, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Happy weavers, happy new year! There will not be a normally scheduled study group meeting for January. We have no hostess nor presenter signed up. Thus there will be a wonderful time to work on your Pictorial. We look forward to seeing everyone, Feb 6th, 2020  at Miriam’s house, 10:00 am with Victoria and Miriam presenting.
Our February program for the Guild is to go to Lake Farm Park to enjoy the fabulous annual quilt show. We have the inside experts, Sheri Gittinger and Joan Horwich to give us pointers about the quilts, categories, ribbons and many aspects of quilting many of us weavers know not. There will be a sign up sheet at the Jan. 23rd, 2020meeting or  please call or email Patty to have your name put on the list. There is no charge for this program and we will have a room for our brown bag lunch or buy  from their cafe.
Patty is also taking a deposit for the April 23-24, 2020 workshop of $60 and will add you to the list of participants when she gets your deposit. Again, please call or email for more information.

Request from EGLFC. Help needed!

April 15, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

EGLFC logo

EGLFC 2017 is at Risk

Volunteers make our beloved regional fiber conference happen. Unfortunately,
volunteers have not stepped forward to fill crucial roles for the 2017 event.
Good teachers and venues book far in advance. Unless a committee begins work
soon, there will be no conference.

EGLFC 2017 has the treasury to bring in top-notch instructors, but so far no
program chairs to select them or treasurer to pay them. It has volunteers for
important jobs such as registrar and website, but so far no person willing to
coordinate them all.

If you value our regional conference — big enough to bring in excellent
teachers yet small enough to get to know them — please consider what you are
willing to do to help it continue. To volunteer or ask any questions you may
have, please contact 2015 chair Peg Houseman at 716-648-2987 or
peghouse54@gmail.com. Thank you!

Finger Weaving Workshop with Carol James

Friday, May 20, 9AM to 4PM

Calvary Hall, Church of the Savior

This one-day weaving class introduces you to the basic method. Focus is on the finger movements that create the braid, what the top ten mistakes look like, how to fix them, and how to avoid them in the first place. You begin with an already prepared warp. Once you worked it into a strap, Carol will show you how to finish and how to begin again. Prospective participants are invited to look for her YouTube videos on the subject.

Her brochure for her workshops can be found at: Carol James Workshop Brochure
