CWG Newsletter contributions are due August 25

August 16, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

As summer is marching swiftly along, please mark your calendar for the August 25 newsletter deadline.

Please send newsletter materials, especially items of our doings and program notes for the CWG fall season.

No doubt that photos of your projects, a new technique or yarn you are trying,  or a weaving reference book you have discovered will be welcome. Or even an essay about your weaving adventures, discoveries, or compatriots. Perhaps a quandary that you would like help with.

In earlier discussions about the foibles of our weaving work might fit into a new column based on Penelope’s weaving tactics——you know, the part where she weaves and unweaves.  We all have stories about our version, so please send yours.

We are continuing our spotlight biographies of our members.

Please consider sharing about your favorite weaving books–your trusted standbys and new-to-you inspiring titles.

CWG Dye Day approaches—Thursday, August 18

August 10, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Hello Cuyahoga Weavers,
This memo is to remind you that next Thursday, August 18th is dyeing day for our guild. We will start at 10:00 and dye until 2:00 (or when ever you run out of fun.)
The location is Jean & Bob Breitzmann’s home.
103 Silver Springs Trail
We are in South Russell.
Our street if off Bell Road, a little over a mile east of route 306.
Bring a bag lunch if you like. We will have drinks and a few treats.
We will meet rain or shine. Right now the weather forecast shows a 38% chance of rain, but if it does rain we will be dyeing in our three car garage.
We will have four natural dye pots that you can use.
Black walnut, indigo, cochineal, and madder.
These pots will dye your wool, cotton, or linen( protein or cellulose ).
If you plan to use these natural dyes, please soak your fiber in water for a minimum of 24 hours before you come.
The dye pots require the fiber to “cook” for over an hour. While you are waiting we will also have chemical dyes for protein and for cellulose that you can use. For theses dyes wool should be fully wet, but the cellulose should be dry.
I plan to be working on a cotton painted warp and painted weft project.
If you don’t have any fiber that you want to dye, the guild has linen and cotton place mats that are available for 50 cents that goes to dyeing supplies.
You may want to wear an apron, or other clothes that might get stained.
Please Email to Robert.Breitzmann@gmail.com if you plan to attend so we can have enough tables setup.
Hope to see you next Thursday,
Bob Breitzmann

CWG Picnic and Pot Luck

July 11, 2022 By Nancy 2 Comments

RESCHEDULED PICNIC & POT LUCK
We have made a reservation at the Katydid Lodge in the Frohring Meadows Park for July 14, 2022, 10:30-1:30 for a rescheduled picnic and pot luck for the Cuyahoga Weavers. A cautious decision to cancel our June picnic led to this new date and time for us to get together.
Please bring a dish to share, your choice, show and tell. Hopefully Ele Richardson will bring our scrap books and photo albums for us to revel over our history.  The program committee has some fabulous announcements for programs in 2022-2023. It will be wonderful to see everyone as the summer will fly by without our knowing.
The address:
    Katydid Lodge
Frohring Meadows park of the Geauga Park System
    16780 Savage Road
    Bainbridge Twp.
    Chagrin Falls, OH 44023
This lovely lodge is accessible from Chagrin/Bainbridge Road or Washington Street  both of which intersect Rt 306. It is both fully enclosed as well as  able to be fully opened to engage the breezes. We hope to see you there, and it will be a fabulous day!

Request from Leslie

June 26, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Either the year 2021 or the year 2020 we had an end-of-the-year meeting I believe at Patty Hridel‘s house. I brought a weaving supply piece that I had purchased at an estate sale and never used because I didn’t understand what it was. I think someone took it and said that they would donate it to praxis. It was not Debby Silver or Joanie Horwich because I already spoke to them. Anyways this late in the game I would really love it back. I don’t know what it’s called, but it was about 5 feet tall and may be 12 inches wide, all wood, and it kind of works as a yarn spindle I think. Perhaps if I pushed it down I would’ve realized that it was some type of yarn spindle, but I always left it upright not knowing what it was. I truly hope that one of you have this item or can contact praxis if it was donated. I am having a hard time winding a very long warps by myself. I just went to Holland Michigan for the Michigan League of hand weavers conference and another Weaver told me that that’s what I need! So please help me in finding this lost item. I’d really appreciate it.
