Dear Weavers

The summer is nearly over , and the new weaving year is supposed to start in September. This has been a strange summer for us all. There has been a lot of anxiety, worry and stress, but I hope you and your family are well. The inability to make plans has driven most of us crazy. We like plans – even if they have to be changed!

There are no fixed dates or plans for the weavers guild. We will resume our meetings when the libraries allow us to gather again in groups.

We do have a little business we must attend to now. As your current president I have taken it upon myself to get this done.

WE NEED YOUR VOTE

The nominating committee met and did their thing. To make it official, all you need to do is contact me. Call text or e-mail with your vote. I pledge to keep an accurate talley.

Since we have no scheduled events at this time, I propose a suspension of dues until we meet again.Victoria seconded the motion, so you can vote on that too.

HELP on the way

Counting and measuring are part and parcel of the weaver’s life. And has its perils.

Has this ever happened to you?

Joan writes:

“One thing has become very clear to me. I need  to recheck my calculations for almost everything and would love to find someone who would help me recheck them, as needed.  For example, I have just wound and threaded an 8 yard warp.  Even with attempting to check my own math, I miscalculated the amount of yarn needed ( I forgot to multiply by 8), warp ends needed ( for whatever reason, I added 16 + 16 and got 36 – so all of my calculations were off – from then on) and finally, when I was presleying the warp before winding on, I figured a sett of 8 rather than 16 – luckily I caught that one early on.”

So the question to the guild is “would there be an interest in offering a ‘measure twice, cut once’ service?   There would be benefits of having a second set of eyes to review our projects BEFORE the uh-oh moment.

Debbie Silver shares her news

Debbie Silver has quite a roster of news to share.  CWG loves to see her work being recognized and appreciated.
She received a book review in the Spring issue of “Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot”.

There will be no June meeting. Elfriede wishes everyone a healthy summer and we hope to get together in September. Details for the autumn plans will come out in August.

The nominating committee (Victoria, Lynne and Elfriede) are putting together a slate of officers before then.

Praxis is selling a loom

Hi all,
Hope you all are well! I am contacting you from Praxis Fiber Workshop, because we have a loom that needs a good home. It is a 12 harness 60″ wide jack Leclerc with a double back beam. It is in good condition, accept it is missing several dowel pins that need replaced. We love this loom, unfortunately we do not have room for it anymore in our crowded studio. We are only asking $500 and that it goes to a good home. Please pass this on to your fellow guild members or anyone you think might have a need. These just came off the loom from my shadow weave warp.  The first is a shawl with a bamboo weft. The second is a small towel with a boucle weft . The last is a larger towel with half 8/2 cotton and 1/2 boucle  weft   Hope all is well with you.  Joan
