Cuyahoga Weavers Guild

Weaving and other fiber-based fun for 45 years and counting

Your CWG friends are wondering………..

January 11, 2024 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Perhaps things have been busy in your life?  Most likely. And it’s so easy to forget CWG’s dues.

Yet your CWG friends would like to have you stay on as a member.

Can we count on you to send in this year’s dues?

Won’t you please send your dues to Patty or bring them to next week’s Program at the art museum?

Rustbelt Fiber Shed offers a discount

January 9, 2024 By Nancy Leave a Comment

JoEllen wants to remind us of a discount offered to CWG members for this program.  Check it out. The deadline for registration is approaching.
We have about one week left for folks to register for our first annual symposium!
  • PART 1: Friday Night, January 26th, 7-9.

  • Part 2: Saturday Morning, January 27th, 8:30-1:00ish

It’s going to be amazing! 9 speakers, 13 fiber-related learning stations, a fashion show/performance, vendors, a raffle, and more. I created a code for your guild for 15% off, just for your members! The code to enter at checkout is “CWG” . Please feel free to share widely. If folks aren’t interested in/available for the entire event, we will also be open for a couple of hours, free to the general public, at the tail end of the symposium, from 2-4 on Saturday (the 27th). Please stop by!
On another note: We are still actively looking for sponsorships.  If the CWG or any of your members’ associated organizations are interested in sponsoring, we would so greatly appreciate it, as it’s what is keeping ticket prices accessible, scholarship tickets available (we’ve given away over 40 scholarship tickets!), stipends for speakers and learning stations, and the free portion free. There are two ways to sponsor: with a direct cash donation or with donation of a product into our fundraising raffle. Either way, we greatly appreciate, and you can read more about how-to sponsor and the benefits here.
Thank you so much for passing along the word!
Sarah Pottle

CWG December Study Group is December 7

December 1, 2023 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Study Group is Thursday, December 7 at 10:00 am
Now that we have had some time to think about it, we will share what we are planning to do to explore “texture”.
At last study group we traded some yarn from our stash and we can do that again if you have some interesting textures to share.
Please RSVP to Bob. Find his contact information on the Members Roster.

WINTER newsletter deadline was Dec 1 and now is Dec 7

December 1, 2023 By Nancy Leave a Comment

December 1st has come and gone. The newsletter deadline is now DECEMBER 7.

Please send newsletter materials, especially items of summer doings and program notes for the upcoming CWG year. A President’s letter, program notes, study group ideas and member’s profile will all be welcome.

No doubt that photos of your projects, a new technique or yarn you are trying,  or a weaving reference book you have discovered will be welcome. Or even an essay about your weaving adventures, discoveries, or compatriots. Perhaps a quandary that you would like help with.

In earlier discussions about the foibles of our weaving work might fit into a new column based on Penelope’s weaving tactics——you know, the part where she weaves and unweaves.  We all have stories about our version so please send yours.

November 11, 2023 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Our program on November 16th will feature a representative from Rust Belt Fibershed to discuss their mission of “creating a collaborative network of regenerative fiber farmers, processors, and designers from the Rust Belt Region to explore the possibilities of working with the resources in our fibershed, in particular sheeps wool, alpaca, flax, and plant dyes, whose work demonstrates a commitment to creating a ‘soil to soil’ fashion and textile system.”
Program will start at noon followed by a business meeting and show and tell.
