Be sure to stay connected and send your news and projects.

Here’s Joan’s:

These just came off the loom from my shadow weave warp.  The first is a shawl with a bamboo weft. The second is a small towel with a boucle weft . The last is a larger towel with half 8/2 cotton and 1/2 boucle  weft   Hope all is well with you.  Joan

Lynne found this gem. And our spinners will be the best at guessing the weight of her wool.

A bit of fiber history——our forebears

April 20, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Lynne found this for us.  Just how early in history were people working fibers?  New discoveries on that point.  Have a good read.

Calendar Updates from CWG

April 20, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

One thing we aren’t doing is meeting as weavers.
And we may not meet for some time more, it seems. Our workshop that was scheduled for next week (April 23-24, 2020) has been cancelled for many understandable reasons. Of concern was Sara Bixler’s decision herself. She also indicated she would not be able to do anything digitally or long distance because she is midst “putting out fires and helping Tom with videos.” She would be excited to reschedule either this fall or next year if our schedules coincide. I will have Jean send out refunds to participants.
We are cancelling our Study Group meeting for May 7th at Jessie’s house. Many deeply felt gratitudes to Jessie for being the beautiful hostess for our study group. We will not have a gathering during which we can discuss our topic for our next year’s study group. That leaves us this forum (email) or to wait until next October 1st.at our first of the season meeting to choose a topic. Ideas anyone? And which would you like to do?
Regarding shows and exhibits, as previously announced, the Show at the Beachwood library has been cancelled. Amiee at the Library has slated us for next April, 2021 to have the space for our show.
And now I must announce that the show at the Went Gallery in Chagrin Falls will not take place. The Gallery is closed with no insight as to when they will open and the Valley Art Center has cancelled the Art by the Falls that has been scheduled for the same time in early June. Again, Chagrin Arts would LOVE for us to schedule an exhibit at their Gallery. Their schedule is open for the Fall although  the Holiday season is booked. The Holidays would perhaps be a good sales time.
Although I have not heard from everyone I asked, we still have the May 21st and June 18th Guild meetings to consider. Unless we hear differently, we could cancel the May meeting and look joyfully forward to the June meeting. We desperately need this gathering time to address business, schedules and programs for next year. Let alone, we don’t want to let this Guild and our friendships fall into the cracks. Please email us with your thoughts on these two meetings!

CWG Program News and COVID-19

April 7, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Patty and Sheri share:
This April our weavers guild had many exciting events and opportunities planned and on the calendar. Many of them we have been looking forward to for more than a year. And, BOOM! now we have nothing! Well, we can make the adjustment, it will be different, but we will still be weaving and we will still want to see each other and share information as well as beautiful hand woven projects as we have been doing for 50+ years.
As of today, April 6, 2020, we have notified our guild members that the Study Group meeting for April 2nd. and the April 3rd. hanging of the show at the Beachwood library will not take place.
Further cancellations are:
The entire show at the Beachwood library has been cancelled considering the library being closed until further notice.
We are cancelling our workshop with Sara Bixler April 23 & 24. Sara was considering her possibilities of video workshop or mailing us the workbook materials for the workshop. We have not talked to her for a final determination but when we do we will make the proper refunds to each weaver who had signed up for the workshop.
We will not, obviously, have to take down the show on April 24 & 25.
As for May, I wish I could use my Seer skills and be able to predict what the virus situation will be in May. At this time, I am assuming the normal study group meeting will take place on May 7 and the regularly scheduled Guild  meeting will continue on May 21. We hope so! Meantime, I suggest we consider an email vote for officers for the next Weaving Year, 2020-2021. We will hopefully be able to have the show in Chagrin Falls in conjunction with the Valley Art Center’s Art by the Falls Festival. That is still on the Art Center’s “Cautiously Optimistic” calendar.  June 1 will be our set up.
Won’t we be delighted as we meet next, the days will be warm, our greetings reflecting how pleased we are to see each other, our weaving efforts will look brilliant! Meantime, Weave ON!

A PSA from Victoria

March 29, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Hello Fiber Folk

While the good folks are all hunkering in place, be aware that bad people are everywhere. I can personally testify.
There’s a new internet nasty out there. They pretend to be PayPal (which is closed by virus and has no people to talk to)
They’ll tell you you just paid $500.00 to the Google Play Store (which you didn’t do) and contact their highlighted phone # if you think there’s an issue.
THIS IS NOT A REAL PAYPAL PHONE NUMBER
A few days later, you’ll get an email that seems to be Microsoft telling you that you just spent (and they delivered) a $499.99 update of the Windows Defender. (you didn’t) They provide another phone # for you to contact.
THIS IS NOT A REAL MICROSOFT PHONE NUMBER
(cheeky little buggers to use security to scam you)
When you actually call Microsoft, they will check your account and find
you have had no activity. They’ll take notes and issue you a case number.
Then you call the Federal Trade Commission. They will want all the addresses and phone numbers from the emails, and you’ll get another case number.
If you don’t want to make the phone calls, fine. But please don’t click on anything or call the numbers they provide. I’m told this is a ransomware thing.
Stay safe. Stay Healthy.😷

Update from Elfriede

March 28, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Dear Weavers,
because we have to stay home (and weave) for a while, some of our planned events are

cancelled:
There will be no study group meeting at Jessie’s house on April the 2nd.
The set up for our show at the Beachwood library on April 3rd is cancelled. The show will not

take place because the library is closed all of April. We do not know at this time when it will be open again.

We are still hoping to do the show in Chagrin Falls in June. We will keep you informed as to events there.

At this time there is no definite news about our meeting and workshop in April. It does not look too good, but Patty will be in touch when she has more information.

I hope you are all in good spirits and healthy. Keep sending pictures and news. Elfriede
