Textile and Fiber Sale

September 19, 2016 By Jean Leave a Comment

Final week — Textile and Fiber Sale. Excellent values!
Years of travel and purchasing fabrics in villages around the world resulted in a fascinating textile collection and full closets which need to be cleared.  I have hundreds of textiles suitable for mounting, sewing, creating, quilts, and enjoyment.  Also handmade dolls from Bhutan, Tibet, Laos, Guatemala and a few other countries.

Textiles from Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Burma,
Tibet, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan
Peru, Guatemala

Felting supplies (including merino wool at $1 an ounce) and feltable fabrics
Silk cocoon strippings in various natural colors, throwsters waste, cocoon rods, and silk noils

Many different weights of chiffon in wonderful colors which were purchased when we lived in England from the Indian shops.  They are fantastic on art quilts and collages; plus they nuno felt so easily.  There are easily 100 different shades available.
Wednesday, September 21, 10:00-5:00

Request from EGLFC. Help needed!

April 15, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

EGLFC logo

EGLFC 2017 is at Risk

Volunteers make our beloved regional fiber conference happen. Unfortunately,
volunteers have not stepped forward to fill crucial roles for the 2017 event.
Good teachers and venues book far in advance. Unless a committee begins work
soon, there will be no conference.

EGLFC 2017 has the treasury to bring in top-notch instructors, but so far no
program chairs to select them or treasurer to pay them. It has volunteers for
important jobs such as registrar and website, but so far no person willing to
coordinate them all.

If you value our regional conference — big enough to bring in excellent
teachers yet small enough to get to know them — please consider what you are
willing to do to help it continue. To volunteer or ask any questions you may
have, please contact 2015 chair Peg Houseman at 716-648-2987 or
peghouse54@gmail.com. Thank you!

Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference opportunity for you

March 12, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

EGLFC 2017 Update:

Many Hands Make Light Work

Already many people had volunteered to help make EGLFC 2017 a success, several of them with experience from working on previous conferences. They are used to working across distances, as EGLFC committees have done in recent years. They have an ample treasury to cover reservations and other expenses for the October 6-9, 2017 event.

Two key positions remain unfilled, Chair and Treasurer. Without people in these jobs the Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference will not happen. Other areas, including publicity, could use additional volunteers.

October 2017 may seem far off but great teachers book far in advance. The committee must begin work soon. Please consider the opportunities this conference offers for you to shine — as well as those it offers for area fiber artists to study locally with nationally-known teachers — and step up to help make EGLFC 2017 a reality.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Central Ohio Weavers Guild is offering two workshops. Check them out.

February 8, 2016 By Nancy Leave a Comment

This announcement just in from CentralOhioWeaversGuild@yahoogroups.com
We have two workshops left for the 2015-16 year (through May) and signups are low this year.  Have you been considering it, but just haven’t gotten around to signing up?  If so, now is the time!

Robin Russo will be conducting a two day spinning workshop April 23-24.  Cost is $150 plus $25 materials fee.  We have to give Robin the number of attendees on February 20, so she has adequate time to order fiber for the event.  Right now, signups are very low.  We will look at them again on February 15.  If it doesn’t look like we can meet our minimum, we will be required to cancel the workshop.  So… if you are thinking about signing up, take the plunge!  If you have already signed up, talk your friends (inside or outside of the guild) into taking the workshop with you.  Here is the link:  Robin Russo:  World of Goat Fibers.  The signup for this class is no longer password protected as it is open the non-guild members.

Susan Conover will be conducting a one day drafting workshop on March 20.  The cost is $65, which includes handouts.  Consider taking this workshop if you want to strengthen your drafting skills or brush up on the skills you already have.   Right now, signups are also low for this workshop, so support the education component of our guild, by taking this workshop!  Here is the Link:  Susan Conover:  Drafting with Pencil & Paper.  The signup for this class is no longer password protected as it is open the non-guild members.

Thanks everyone!  Hope to see you in one (or both) of these workshops!
