One spot left in Su Butler workshop, April 9th – 11th, 2014

October 22, 2013 By Darcy Leave a Comment

Our 3-day spring workshop this year is Easy Pickup with Su Butler. Simple techniques will be learned to create complex looking designs on 3 or 4 shafts. Appropriate for all levels of weavers for embellishments and additional depth. We will need pre-warped looms, use a cartoon, and create a sampler of designs. Our MAFA attendees suggested Su as a workshop leader as she was outstanding at MAFA.
From Patty Hridel:
We presently have one opening left for the Sue Butler Easy Pickup workshop on April 9, 10, & 11, 2014. We will take a waiting list. If someone is interested who has not signed up, please contact Patty. The cost will be under $200 each, and we will take deposits after the first of the year. The web site for Su is www.subudesigns.com.

Fundraiser for the Peninsula Art Academy, November 2nd

October 21, 2013 By Darcy Leave a Comment

Member Caroline Urgo shared this email from Carol Adams regarding an upcoming event.

Dear friends,

As you may know 10 years ago, Edna Ratner, Steve Craig and I founded the Peninsula Art Academy. We have been happily creating, teaching and exhibiting art in all mediums, hosting events and offering not only a gallery to present our artists, but a space for musicians to hone their skills and delight their audiences. We have recently come upon financial difficulties because of a huge raise in our rent and more recently, the closing of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The PAA is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to teach art to the public of all ages. The scope of our capabilities is unlimited and if we do not currently teach one particular medium, we welcome those who can. I am currently acting president of our board as well as a teacher, exhibitor and head of The Fiber Café, our group of fiber artists. That group has produced 10 years of fine art fiber shows as well as the “Fiber Fling,” a very successful three-day festival featuring raw-to-finished materials created out of every type of ‘fiber’ as well as the live animals whose glorious coats furnished such fiber.

We are hosting an emergency fundraiser on November 2nd, and it’s going to be a delightful and artful evening. Please find our invitation attached.

We really need your help to keep our doors open and to continue teaching and promoting the arts. The price of your ticket to this fundraiser includes a membership to the Peninsula Art Academy and all of its benefits, and the cost of your ticket is fully tax deductible.

The fundraiser, just after Halloween, is keeping in that vein of costume and fun!

So please come dressed for fun, and prizes to be given for the best costume!

Thanking you in advance for your participation and if you find you cannot attend, please donate to our institution to help our cause.

Sincerely,

Carol Adams

Carol James visits May Spinners meeting

May 3, 2013 By Darcy Leave a Comment

Carol James, our delightful instructor at last year’s sprang workshop, will be visiting our sister group, the Cuyahoga Spinners Guild, on Friday, May 24th, to display her replica of George Washington’s Revolutionary War sash. Carol’s replica is such a true recreation of the original that the caretakers at Mount Vernon had to check to make sure the original was still where they left it when they first viewed Carol’s work. Read all the details at the spinners blog and please join us to see this wonderful piece of history as it makes its way to Mount Vernon.
